Formatted dance steps were the big thing in the 40′s and 50′s. Between the foxtrots, mambo’s, rhumba’s, waltzes and salsa’s, folks learned the steps and danced the night away.
Then came the sixties! A wild and crazy era which started off with fad dances like the twist, the stroll, the pony, the mashed potato, the huckle-buck, the freddie, and at least a dozen more that people learned quickly and frolicked to!
But as classic rock took the scene, organized dance went awry. Free-style became the norm, and although folks took to the dance floor, they really didn’t have fun. Many felt self-conscious and inhibited, questioning themselves as to whether they were doing a dance right!
Then came the seventies and DISCO!
The “bus stop” was simple to learn and it packed the dance floors. The movie Saturday Night Fever vividly showed the value of dance floor lighting, and the club scene embraced the new style as people packed the dance floors!
To run the music, DJ’s came on the scene and a new era of entertainment was born. Club DJ’s quickly became stars and developed followings.
Next came private parties, wedding receptions, anniversaries, mitzvahs, family gatherings, featuring DJ’s as entertainment. Live bands were normally unaffordable, but DJ’s offered a budget minded alternative.
The Mobile DJ became a staple at private parties and as more and more DJs came on to the scene, the craft evolved into what you see today.
Today, most DJs offer dance floor lighting to enhance the venue. Many offer additional amenities such as video screens, photography, photo booths, inflatables, live musicians and more!
And the music continues to evolve, in a way that encourages dancing more so than ever before, with the DJ setting the mood and the atmosphere, utilizing his arsenal of party enhancements, to create exciting and memorable events.
One of the latest enhancements is Lightscaping, or commonly known as Up-lighting. With state of the art LED lighting, the DJ can now colorize your venue to any color in the spectrum, augmenting your personal theme or attire selections.
Certainly, over these past 4 decades, the Mobile DJ has evolved dramatically, creating a unique type of entertainment which can be customized and fitted for just about any type of social or corporate event.
As I say in my tag line, “It’s So Much More Than Just Music!”
