Sunday & Tom Amoresano Wed!

St Clements Reception Center in Matawan, NJ was the setting for Sunday & Tom’s 5 hour-long dream Wedding Reception. The Steve Cie Entertainment Team was privileged to play an integral role in the planning and execution of this very special occasion.

The event started with a luxurious cocktail hour in the lounge area, with music provided by an accomplished pianist playing an assortment of American Songbook, Classical and Pop tunes. The cocktail hour was followed by a Grand Entrance, First Dance, Toast and finally a Blessing by the wedding ceremony officiant Father Dan Cahill of St Ann Church.

NJ Wedding DJ – a new tag or a new keyword?

The 2010 Wedding Season Booking period is beginning to wind down. But the marketing momentum continues to gain speed as inter-net keyword marketeers descend upon the catering halls, florists, planners, wedding officiants and DJs.

As Google and Bing lead the search engine crowd, new innovative marketing ideas are spawned to sell advertising to businesses geared strictly to driving consumers to their web sites.

In the advent of SEO – Search Engine Optimization – services selling their methods to optimize your web site so that your site pops up on popular searches, the leading search engines have devised a method to control “who’s up first” on the search page. They now have the means to lock out certain popular search keywords, selling the privilege of utilizing them to gain search engine positioning.

What will they think of next? How much are you willing to pay for the ideal keyword that drives viewers to your site?

Hmmm…. A dentist might want—”painless dentistry”
A pizza joint—–”large cheese pie”
A dairy—–”got milk”

A new business is born. It sells keywords!

Farewell Conan, we hardly knew ye!

Well the fiasco at NBC concluded last night as Conan O’Brien exited The Tonight Show for the very last time. NBC’s big experiment to save prime time programming money failed miserably, and a very talented young host has had his career derailed by the stupidity of accountant-driven executive programmers.

Conan O'Brien

Conan "COCO" O'Brien

It was high time for Jay Leno to retire and turn over the reigns to a younger host, and Conan O’Brien had indeed paid his dues to be rewarded with the most coveted position on television. But NBC couldn’t simply have a nice orderly Bye Bye Leno transition. They had to screw up prime time programming to inject a useless Jay Leno Hour at 10 PM.

NBC’s big money saving idea eventually cost them nearly $100 Million as you consider the reported $45 Million in severance pay to Conan and his staff, along with the expense of a new $50 Million Studio for the show.

NBC has made some real blunders over the years, and this latest fiasco should keep their ratings in the dumper for a long time to come.

Remember, this is the network that cancelled the original Star Trek Series claiming it wasn’t rating worthy and had no lasting power!

It’s also the network that interrupted the 1968 AFL Football Playoff Game when in the final minutes of the game,  had a tide turning ending play, instead went to a Holiday Special called Heidi!

That fall day in Oakland, California was a showdown between two of the best teams in the American Football League–the defending champion Oakland Raiders and the upstart New York Jets, a team that had become a force to reckon with, thanks to its able and flashy quarterback Joe Namath. Because the game was set to begin at 4:00 Eastern Time (1:00 PM in the Western time zone), there was no concern the game would run over into prime time. Most football games usually took less than three hours, so NBC felt confident it could air the game within the three-hour period, allowing the much-hyped “Heidi” to air on schedule.

What the Peacock Network did not count on was a nail-biter. Both teams were in fine form, with the lead changing hands often. By late in the fourth quarter, a 26-yard field goal by Jim Turner put the Jets ahead 32 to 29. By that time, it was just before 7:00 PM Eastern Time, and the game had just 65 seconds left to play. With so little time left, it seemed there was no way–short of a miracle–the Jets could lose. Immediately, viewers were treated to NBC’s animated peacock colour logo, before “Heidi” went on the air.  Here’s what they missed:

The game resumed after the commercial break, and the Jets suffered a penalty, giving control to Oakland. Charlie Smith ran for 43 yards for a touchdown, putting the Raiders ahead 36-to-32. But during the kick-off for the next play, the Jets’ Earl Christy allowed the football to land on the two-yard line, giving the Raiders’ Preston Ridlehuber a chance to grab the pigskin and score a SECOND touchdown for Oakland. The final score: Raiders 43, Jets 32–one of the most sensational plays in American football history.

The fallout was tremendous. It wasn’t bad for the Raiders, who later that year defeated the Jets in the AFC games and went on to win Super Bowl Three with a 16-to-7 victory over the Baltimore Colts. But the National Football League was so angry it demanded future broadcast contracts to include a provision that required the networks to air all football games in their entirety. The “Heidi Game” was one of those rare television events that caused a chain reaction–and proved once and for all the popularity of professional football in the United States. Perhaps the best final words came from Val Pinchbeck, who was the National Football League’s chief of broadcasting: “Probably the most significant factor to come out of ‘Heidi’ was, whatever you do, you better not leave an NFL football game….It sure let you know that you better not take my football away from me at 7:00 PM.”

Well, it seems NBC still hasn’t learned it’s lesson when it comes to Prime Time Programming!

2009 The Year of Whine!

The headline of 2009……..

. . . President Obama, speaking on health care before a joint session of Congress, is rudely interrupted by Kanye West, who grabs the microphone and declares that Beyoncé has a better health-care plan

2009 began as a Year of Hope.  We Hope it ends soon.

It all started with the destruction of the great lawn on the Washington Mall by spectators watching the Chief Justice screw up the oath of office given to the new President, Barack Obama.

Those headlines quickly diminished as stories began to propagate about a new American hero who lands his US Airway Jet on the Hudson River in New York City.

Meanwhile, President Obama fruitlessly tried to fill seats in his cabinet, only to have his first two nominees admit they cheated on their income taxes. Shame, shame Tom Daschle and Tim Geithner. You should have used Turbo-Tax.

In the Governors pool, Arnold Schwartzenegger changed California’s name to South Oregon, Sarah Palin resigned from Alaska, Illinois Gov Blagojevich was removed from office and unceremoniously dumped somewhere near Giants Stadium in the Meadowlands of New Jersey, and the South Carolina Governor simply disappeared for a week.

Bernie Madooff plead guilty to stealing everyone money and went off to jail for thousand years, Purell stocks soared as the Swine Flu spread, Windows 7 was finally released, and Aif Force One began an Annual Air Show over the skyscrapers of New York City, throwing thousands into a state of panic.

Congress hurriedly passed a $ 787 Billion Dollar stimulus bill, while Boeing finally launched their long awaited and delayed, 787 aircraft.

Chrysler was sold to Italy, who quickly replaced the name with FIAT, General Motors changed their name to Government Motors, and Ford Motors remained on the Fix or Repair Daily listing.

Michael Jackson was put to sleep by his physician, and Kanye West interrupted President Obama’s speech on Healthcare reform, shouting “Beyonce’ has a better health-care plan!”

2009 was most certainly a year of whine. Let’s see if we can do it again in 2010!

SEO An Excersize or an Idealogy?

Marketing 101 never really addressed this thing known as SEO, or Search Engine Optimization. The actual definition of SEO can be found in many places, along with a rather technical description of what it is and what it does.

In layman’s terms, SEO is the tune up of your web site to attract Seach Engine Spiders to crawl and index your web site to certain words and phrases which basically describe the services that you offer.

Undoubtedly you have viewed advertisements, or received telephone solicitations from companies that specialize in providing SEO services. These services usually open the conversation with promises to place your website on the first page of Google or Yahoo, or Bing.

How do they accomplish this daunting task?

There really isn’t any magic with this. SEO is an ongoing process of placing relevant keywords and phrases within your web site in a way that these Search Engine “bots” can easily see them.

Once you have accomplished this excersize, you are not finished with it.

SEO is an ongoing idealogy, or, philosophy, if you will, whereby one must continually “tweak” their site and constantly enhance the relevancy of their site to keep it in the top search engine rankings.

Here are a few tips to improve your web site through SEO.

Search engine optimization takes time, but sticking with it will help establish a strong visitor base for your site, or expand your online business through increased sales.

Five Ways to Boost SEO
There are lots of ways to improve how high your site ranks on major search engines.

1) Add Unique Content to Your Site
Brainstorm keywords that your audience might use to find you. Anytime you add content to your site — blog posts, product descriptions, an “About Us” section, etc. — it should be rich with those keywords. Unique, quality content also gives other sites reasons to link to you, and building backlinks is part of the popularity factor search engines pay attention to.

2) Place Keywords in Key Places
Those same keywords should appear in your page titles, headings and subheadings (in terms of content and code). However, that doesn’t mean you should cram them anywhere you can. Use them where they’re relevant, and if they aren’t relevant in certain places, replace them with words that are.

3) Create a Sitemap
Sitemaps can improve SEO by displaying links to pages on your site that search engine bots might miss otherwise. Structure your site’s pages from broad to specific, and try to keep them no more than three clicks from the homepage. Google Webmaster Tools, explains how to create sitemaps and submit them to Google.

4) Add Links with Strong Anchor Text
When linking to relevant sites, tell your readers where you’re sending them. The anchor text (the wording displayed in a hyperlink) should closely match the URL you are pointing to. Strong anchor text:
“Check out Google Webmaster Tools.”

Weak anchor text:
“Check out Google Webmaster Tools, here.”

5) Submit Your Site to Search Engines

Jackie Martin Weds Allan Donnelly

On this, the very last weekend of the Summer of 2009, with brilliantly sunny and cloudless skies, with seasonal temperatures in the mid to upper 70’s, Saturday, September 19, 2009 brought us to Blauvelt New York, a peaceful suburban town a few miles north of the New Jersey/New York state line.  The venue was the elegant Casa Mia Manor House on Rt 303.

Casa Mia Manor House

Casa Mia Manor House

The event was the Wedding Reception of Jackie & Allan, a lovely couple from Closter, New Jersey. We booked this event nearly two years ago, which afforded the bride ample time to plan the absolute perfect wedding reception! Jackie went through our voluminous music library and selected nearly 50 of her favorite tunes from the late 50’s through today’s Top 40 hits. She had doo-wop, American Songbook, British Invasion, Motown, Disco, Classic Rock, Jazz Fusion and even some Hip-Hop music selected. It was a great play list!

The maitre’d at Casa Mia, Vilma, did an excellent job coordinating dinner to fit perfectly into the time-line requested by Jackie & Allan. The 5-course sit down dinner was efficiently served over a 1 hour and 45 minute period to approximately 90 guests in attendance. Photography was assigned to Timothy Griffin Photography of Lincoln Park, New Jersey. Tim is an excellent photographer, who has a wonderful demeanor, and is a pleasure to work with. Joe Gellman mixed the music while Steve Cie emceed the event.

The show-stopper of the evening was The Conga-Line of Love, which had over 50 guests dancing on the line with the Bride & Groom.

Much thanks to Jackie & Allan Donnelly for allowing us to be a part of their very special day!
