The Nugents Rock The Sheraton Eatontown

Once again, Steve Cie Entertainment was privileged to help celebrate a great wedding reception. This time it was for Jami & Erik Nugent.
Jami & Erik Nugent
The celebration was held at The Sheraton Inn of Eatontown, and attended by nearly 100 relatives and friends.

After a sun-filled cocktail hour in the glass atrium known as The Concord Cafe,Concord Cafe the guests filed into the gorgeous ballroom and cheered as the bride & groom made their grand entrance to a Special Mix of the popular Black Eyed Peas made especially by Steve Cie, the Emcee for the event. They then took their rightful place on the center of the dance floor as DJ Mike Wieder of Ultimate Sounds Entertainment played I Knew I loved You by Savage Garden
First Dance

After a poignant toast by Best Man Matt Brown, and Matron of Honor Annmarie Sperling McCarron, Father Dan Cahill of St Ann Church, Keansburg, offered a special blessing and grace.

Our good friend, brother of the bride, Glen Geraghty , gave the bride away and had the honor of a special dance with her.

Steve Cie Entertainment provided Emcee, DJ Entertainment, Plasma Video Screen, and “ZAP” Photo services for the event.
Bouquet Toss

A special, memorable moment occurred when DJ Mike Wieder, unwittingly caught the bride’s bouquet, which Jami mistakenly over-threw to the throng of single ladies, and those looking for a second chance.

As usual, the Sheraton staff served a sumptuous dinner with their normal excellent service.

The guests seemed to prefer a “high-energy” mix of music from the 80’s, 90’s, and today’s pop as they kept the dance floor filled for the entire night!

At the conclusion of the five hour long event, many of the guests moved into the Sheraton’s Lounge for two more hours of partying and Karaoke.

Best wishes to Jami & Erik, and again, thanks for letting us be a part of their very special day!

Allissa & Ryan’s “Monsoon Wedding”

March 13, 2010
Conover Rd Banquet Center
Colts Neck, New Jersey

While the storm of the decade raged outside, inside the cozy, warm décor of The Conover Road Banquet Center, the Getto and Kircher families were celebrating the “Monsoon Wedding” of Allissa & Ryan.

The gorgeous venue took on an added sense of elegance with Up Lighting, stage and dance floor lighting illuminating the spacious room with color.

A 1700 Watt Mackie Sound System reinforced the sounds of Allissa’s new father-in-law as he sang and played guitar for the bride & groom’s first dance.

Father Daughter DanceThere wasn’t a dry eye in the crowd as Allissa’s dad, Fred Getto, escorted his daughter to the dance floor for a dance to one of his favorite tunes, “That’s How Strong My Love Is” by Otis Redding.

A gourmet buffet , provided by award winning caterer, Tastefully Yours by Joyce, www.tastefullyyoursbyjoyce.com treated the guests to a sumptuous meal.

While most of the surrounding Monmouth County area was blacked out due to trees and poles knocked down by the ongoing raging storm outside, uninterrupted electricity was provided by The Colts Neck Volunteer Fire Company.

It was at this event , that the newly designed 6 Panel , 54” high FaCIEd was unveiled publicly for the first time. It was a “brilliant” success!

The guests packed the dance floor throughout the evening under the splendor of the atmosphere enhancing intelligent light show, as Steve Cie led the revelers in familiar dance steps such as The Cha Cha Slide, Cupid Shuffle, Cotton-Eye Joe, Conga , and The Circle of Love. A well orchestrated Dollar Dance to the music of Kenny Vance & The Planotones, capped off the group set, as a set of Top Twenty Music ensued.

Dancing

One of Allissa’s favorite artists is Michael Jackson, and a specially mixed 15 minute long medley by Steve Cie, created specifically for this occasion, packed the dance floor!

All in all, “The Monsoon Wedding” will undoubtedly be remembered for a long time to come!

Kiss

Special thanks to Allissa & Ryan Kircher for the privilege of being a part of their very special day!

NJ Wedding DJ – a new tag or a new keyword?

The 2010 Wedding Season Booking period is beginning to wind down. But the marketing momentum continues to gain speed as inter-net keyword marketeers descend upon the catering halls, florists, planners, wedding officiants and DJs.

As Google and Bing lead the search engine crowd, new innovative marketing ideas are spawned to sell advertising to businesses geared strictly to driving consumers to their web sites.

In the advent of SEO – Search Engine Optimization – services selling their methods to optimize your web site so that your site pops up on popular searches, the leading search engines have devised a method to control “who’s up first” on the search page. They now have the means to lock out certain popular search keywords, selling the privilege of utilizing them to gain search engine positioning.

What will they think of next? How much are you willing to pay for the ideal keyword that drives viewers to your site?

Hmmm…. A dentist might want—”painless dentistry”
A pizza joint—–”large cheese pie”
A dairy—–”got milk”

A new business is born. It sells keywords!

It’s Our 35th Anniversary!

Steve Cie Logo

Hard to believe, but we have begun our 35th year in the mobile DJ business!

Wow, the changes that have occurred in our industry are truly amazing.

My father was a finalist on Ted Mack’s Original Amateur Hour in New York City.

He is a semi-professional singer who has been said to sound like Bing Crosby. So entertainment seems to be in my genes.

In the early 1970’s, I was a promotional announcer for a major New York Department Store, and also operated my own “pirate” radio station on Staten Island.

Steve Cie at a live performance circa 1982

Back in 1975, two close friends, Ray Hogrefe and Maryann Perragallo, suggested that

I “DJ” a New Year’s Eve Party in Keyport New Jersey. They had listened to my “pirate” radio show for several years, and thought that having a “DJ” at a party would be better than having a live band.

After all, it would be less expensive; only one person to feed, and the music would be continuous. One problem—the only music I owned was by The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Crosby Stills & Nash, and some Led Zeppelin. So, with Maryann’s husband Steve’s reel-to-reel tape recorder, and a pile of borrowed records, I recorded 6 hours of taped music, along with a few 45’s, a small pile of LP’s, one turntable, a Realistic (Radio Shack) 4 channel mixer, a Capehart Stereo Amp, and a lot of optimism, proceeded to perform my first “live” DJ show!

It was held at The Veteran’s Of Foreign Wars Hall on the corner of Third & Waverly Streets in Keyport NJ. Over 100 people crammed into the tiny hall, and the party was a huge success! Several inquiries for upcoming events prompted me to invest in a venture that would eventually become known as “The Steve Cie Show”.

Ken Miller & Steve Cie 1980

Ken Miller & Steve Cie 1980

I started purchasing records, mostly compilation albums, to broaden my music library.

Several major department stores became my weekly destination to purchase Top 20 45’s .

The business took off, and I found myself performing at local school dances, fund raisers, and weddings. Buck Smith’s House of Brides in Middletown NJ made me their recommended “House DJ’, funneling more than 50 weddings a year to me. I learned much of what I know about handling a crowd from Mr. Smith and his daughter , Marilyn.

In 1977, I was invited to make an appearance on a fledgling local FM radio station. After hearing me on the air, I was offered a daily 10 minute show during the evening drive time, called “Break 89”. The show was news and commentary about the bustling CB Radio craze which was sweeping the country. A few weeks later, I was offered the morning drive-time slot, and The Steve Cie Show was born.  The station was known as “The Big V” and my by-line was Steve Cie on The Big V. The Show would run successfully for the next 5 years, at which point I decided to put more time into the blossoming Mobile DJ business.

One of the lynch pins of my act, was a color light show, attenuated to the beat of the music. I was one of the very first mobile DJ’s in New Jersey, and the first to incorporate this mobile color light show in my events. A simple 3 channel color organ, three strings of 100 watt colored flood lamps which clipped to the ceiling of the venue, and the atmosphere was set for a great party. The mood was set by my personality, and the sound was generated by an assortment of band style amplifiers and speakers.

I would lug 8 to 10 milk crates of LP’s, along with my ever growing collection of 45’s, to each event, taking requests and mixing medley’s of pop music. Eventually, technology evolved to permit digital tape recording of my music, later Compact Discs, and now, Digital Recordings of my library. It’s a good thing, since today, I would be hard pressed to carry all of my music on CD, let alone vinyl as in the old days. Digital Media allows me to carry 40,000 songs on a “Hard Drive” that weighs less than one pound!

Technology has also provided me with a fantastic light show. Computer controlled, these lights are known as DMX, and provide spectacular dance hall effects that wow the crowds, and set the atmosphere for fantastic parties!

With the advent of the internet, the Mobile DJ Industry is expanding and improving, and has become the standard for entertainment at Sweet 16’s, Weddings, Bar Mitzvah’s, and Corporate Events.

American DJ Assn

American DJ Assn

The industry of late, has become organized, with several local and national organizations sprouting up to develop Mobile DJ’ing into a respectable and reliable industry. I am a proud member of a national concern, The American Disc Jockey Association, as well as a local state organization known as The New Jersey Disc Jockey Network. I also participate in several national conventions each year, where the latest entertainment techniques, business management tricks of the trade, and technology are unveiled.

The past 35 years have been a wild and enjoyable ride, and I hope to stay on this horse for many years ahead! I’ve taken several young DJ’s under my wing as it were, to help keep my show fresh and contemporary.

Buck Smith’s House of Brides is no more, and most of the well known catering halls have changed hands, and names. Broadcast radio has peaked and is now declining and the expectations of a demanding clientele cause DJ performers to be at the top of their game at all times! Although the music and technology have changed over the decades, one thing, my business by-line, has remained unchanged. “ Having an Affair?….Make Sure it’s with Steve Cie!”

We had a great experience with The Steve Cie Show for our wedding reception. Steve and his staff were very professional and worked with with our other vendors. Steve was great to work with and put us at great ease that the day would run smoothly. My husband and I found the price to be very reasonable, as well. What we also loved about The Steve Cie Show is that they took pictures all throughout the day of the wedding and were able to view these pictures the next day. Steve then uses these pictures with some video segments to make a wedding montage. It’s pretty cool. We would recommend The Steve Cie Show for an event without question!!

What can I say about Steve? When you worry about every detail of the most important day of your life, having Steve made my wedding the best party of my life. My guests could not stop taking about what a great DJ he was. But then when I told them about what a help he was with planning and running the night, people are amazed that there are people still out there in the world that give 110% service in everything they do.
Steve is like an a best friend that you must invite to make you party the best.
On a scale of one to ten Steve is a 12!

Gave us exactly what we wanted — and then some. Very professional, very flexible. Went out of the way to get us traditional Greek music. Event went wonderfully, and our guests were still able to carry on conversations at the tables without screaming over the level of the music. He even surprised us afterward with short CD of a video he took of our wedding. Light show was beautiful and just enough to make a big impression without seeming like a rock concert. Would recommend him to everyone, and would hire him again in a heartbeat.

SEO An Excersize or an Idealogy?

Marketing 101 never really addressed this thing known as SEO, or Search Engine Optimization. The actual definition of SEO can be found in many places, along with a rather technical description of what it is and what it does.

In layman’s terms, SEO is the tune up of your web site to attract Seach Engine Spiders to crawl and index your web site to certain words and phrases which basically describe the services that you offer.

Undoubtedly you have viewed advertisements, or received telephone solicitations from companies that specialize in providing SEO services. These services usually open the conversation with promises to place your website on the first page of Google or Yahoo, or Bing.

How do they accomplish this daunting task?

There really isn’t any magic with this. SEO is an ongoing process of placing relevant keywords and phrases within your web site in a way that these Search Engine “bots” can easily see them.

Once you have accomplished this excersize, you are not finished with it.

SEO is an ongoing idealogy, or, philosophy, if you will, whereby one must continually “tweak” their site and constantly enhance the relevancy of their site to keep it in the top search engine rankings.

Here are a few tips to improve your web site through SEO.

Search engine optimization takes time, but sticking with it will help establish a strong visitor base for your site, or expand your online business through increased sales.

Five Ways to Boost SEO
There are lots of ways to improve how high your site ranks on major search engines.

1) Add Unique Content to Your Site
Brainstorm keywords that your audience might use to find you. Anytime you add content to your site — blog posts, product descriptions, an “About Us” section, etc. — it should be rich with those keywords. Unique, quality content also gives other sites reasons to link to you, and building backlinks is part of the popularity factor search engines pay attention to.

2) Place Keywords in Key Places
Those same keywords should appear in your page titles, headings and subheadings (in terms of content and code). However, that doesn’t mean you should cram them anywhere you can. Use them where they’re relevant, and if they aren’t relevant in certain places, replace them with words that are.

3) Create a Sitemap
Sitemaps can improve SEO by displaying links to pages on your site that search engine bots might miss otherwise. Structure your site’s pages from broad to specific, and try to keep them no more than three clicks from the homepage. Google Webmaster Tools, explains how to create sitemaps and submit them to Google.

4) Add Links with Strong Anchor Text
When linking to relevant sites, tell your readers where you’re sending them. The anchor text (the wording displayed in a hyperlink) should closely match the URL you are pointing to. Strong anchor text:
“Check out Google Webmaster Tools.”

Weak anchor text:
“Check out Google Webmaster Tools, here.”

5) Submit Your Site to Search Engines

Wendy & Daniel Wed!

McDonald Wedding 002

The Steve Cie Show crew had the privilege to entertain the guests at the Wendy (Carbone) & Daniel McDonald Wedding Reception.

Desiring a “Winter” theme complete with gorgeoMcDonald Wedding 033us White Christmas trees, the setting was at The Grand Chalet in Wayne, NJ.

The Grand Entrance was made even more spectacular with an Honor Guard of Axe wielding Firefighters from Daniel’s Fire Company.

The First Dance

The First Dance

The newlyweds’ first dance was a wonderfully executed waltz to the Moulin Rouge Soundtrack love theme, Come What May.

The dance floor was active continuously from the Bride & Groom’s First Dance throughout the entire evening. Although the cuisine was first rate and the dinners served timely, many guests opted to dance instead of eating, including the groom! The music played covered nearly every genre and decade in the past 60 years.

Conga Line of LoveThe Conga Line of Love and the subsequent Circle of Love had at least 60 participants, causing a great feeling of warmth, joy, and fun for the bride & groom!

It was an elegant, well-planned reception. The staff of The Grand Chalet was top notch, with excellent service and a true desire to serve the guests beyond their expectations.

McDonald Wedding 022

Steve Cie with Daniel & Wendy McDonald

At the end of the evening, the very happy, and thoughtful newlyweds, commented on what a great time they had, and that their guests told them that this had been the best party they had been to. Congratulations Wendy & Daniel, and thank you for letting us be an integral part of this once-in-a-lifetime celebration!
